WORLD WATER DAY 2019

World Water Day is an international observance and an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference. This year we have differentiated our approach for public interaction on Water Day. Our drawing competition aims to create awareness on water conservation and stimulate the young minds on the importance of water conservation to promote habits that students can adopt from an early age to ensure conservation

    The Water Hero knows the importance of the concept “Every Drop Counts”

    The Water Hero practices water conservation at home and everywhere

    The Water Hero advocates the importance of conserving water to their family and friends

    The Water Hero understands that the Maldives have few fresh water sources

    The Water Hero understands that we depend on expensive processes to get every drop of fresh water delivered to their homes!

    The Water Hero understands the importance of water for sustenance!

    Size: Artwork must be submitted in A3 drawing block size, on any type of paper.

    Mediums: There is no restriction on the use of medium. It could be regular pencils, coloured pencils, graphite pencils, charcoal, crayons, sketch pens, oil pastels, watercolours, acrylic colours, oil colours.

    Drawing should be done by hand.

    Entries: Each participant can submit only one entry



    All entries shall be sent to Fen Building 5th Floor Full Name, Age, Gender, Category and Full Address including Phone number must be on the back of the painting

    Water Sources (SKG and UNDER)

    Kids do you know the sources of water in the Maldives? Draw them and demonstrate it for us!

    UN water fact: around 159 million people collect their drinking water from surface water, such as ponds and streams.


    EVERY DROP COUNTS! (GRADES 1-3)

    Kids, what do you do at home to save water? What do you tell grownups to do to conserve water? Tell us through your art.

    UN water fact: around 4 billion people – nearly two-thirds of the world’s population – experience severe water scarcity during at least one month of the year.


    THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER (GRADES 4-6)

    Demonstrate through your drawings the importance of water in everyday life.

    You may also show the importance of water for sustenance of life. Tip: that tree in your garden is not growing by itself. It needs a mixture of love, sun and water!

    UN water fact: one in four primary schools have no drinking water service, with pupils using unprotected sources or going thirsty.





  • WATER CONSERVATION (GRADES 7-8)

    What are some ways you can conserve and reuse water? Give us tips on how you can conserve water.

    Tip: the water you used to steam the veggies? Your plants need it!

    UN water fact: 2.1 billion people live without safe water at home.


    THE DESALINATION PROCESS (GRADES 9-10)

    Understand the privilege of getting water straight from the home tap!

    Do you understand the desalination process? Demonstrate through your drawings the process or parts of the process of desalinating water to get fresh water!

    UN water fact: women and girls are responsible for water collection in eight out of ten households with water off-premises.


    THE POST APOCALYPSE (GRADES 11-12)

    Imagine a world without water and paint it! Show the world the significance of water through your art!

    Note: you may also depict the world being saved from the apocalypse through water!

    UN water fact: 700 million people worldwide could be displaced by intense water scarcity by 2030


    • The opening date for this competition is 22nd March 2019.

      The closing date for entry to this competition is 25th April 2019 at 15:00Hrs.

      Winners will be announced on 10th May 2019.

    CRITERIA POINTS (15 MARKS)

      Concept: You will be judged on the quality of your concept, which determines how well you understand the theme – 5 Marks

      Creativity: How you could convey the idea, message or thought in an original and imaginative way - 6 Marks

      Visual impact: How the entrant is able to showcase their personal originality and technique to influence how the artwork is presented and interpreted - 4 Marks

      Top 3 drawing from each category will be judged by a panel and the winners will be selected.
